Do I agree with the massacre on August 15th of Sheikh Mujib and most of his family? Absolutely not. It is a dark blot in our country’s history and we are going to pay for it for many more years to come.

BNP’s celebration of something or other every year on August 15th is malicious and wrong. Khaleda Zia’s personal image is built, to a great extent, on her personal moderation of speech and action, something she has considerably undermined by these celebrations.

i would love for this to appear with my post on august 15th. i myself said no less about him. but i must ask tacit, since the resemblances between 1/11 and 15/8/75 are politically similar: so america did not ahve to deal with a constitutional dictator and we did. do you agree with how it was done? given bnp’s celebrations of something or other on aug 15th every year, and you being one of two intelligent bnp supporters i know (online anyhow), i hope you see where i’m coming from.

Independence war of America and that of Bangladesh are not comparable; and George Washington, Hamilton, Jefferson so on are not comparable with Mujib. Yet, an excellent deconstruction of the edifice of Mujuib’s politics.

You’re right about the word choice probably, but if you can’t mix it up at your own blog, where can you, right?

Point taken about Hamilton as well. I would say though, we may live in Hamilton’s America, but maybe, we aspire to live in Jefferson’s.

A very fair post. Noone says what you did - but one day when we, as a nation, are able to be honest and fair about our history and those who were the primary actors in its drama, I believe that your assessment will be judged as true.

You should have just kept it at “intellectual giant”, btw. And I wouldn’t have contrasted Jefferson with Hamilton as a man of action, as that seems to belittle the considerable intellectual achievements of the latter. Federalist Papers - ’nuff said. It is Hamilton’s America more than Jefferson’s that we live in.

Sorry, Jyoti Bhai, bad choice of idioms. Not dinosaur as in extinct and endangered, but dinosaur as in overwhelming titan dwarfing all those around him. Maybe I should have said t-rex.
